My first thought when I received my copy of The Atlas of New Librarianship back in 2011 was, "Oh, man, this book is HEAVY!"
A few weeks earlier, I had watched and livetweeted a virtual session with Dr. R. David Lankes for some conference / webinar / whatever and was so inspired by his message that I reached out to him on Twitter to ask him to be the 7th guest on my burgeoning new podcast (to be honest, I probably just tagged him in a tweet like "Oh, man, I wish I could have @rdlankes on my podcast!" and he responded?). He said yes immediately, and we were off to the races.
Since that time, he has been one of my most frequent guests, a guest host, one of the show's biggest supporters, and the podcast would probably have ended with episode 100 if not for his intervention (that's a story for another day). I am happy to say that we've developed a friendly relationship over the years and find time to meet up at conferences, when possible.
Thanks for everything, David, and here's to many more appearances on the show in the future! 🍻

Forged in War: How a Century of War Created Today’s Information Society — rowman.com
This new book by Dr. Lankes is aimed more at the general market, rather than targeted specifically to librarians and other information professionals, but it is still very much in our wheelhouse. He weaves together the events that have led to much of today's information infrastructure, from telegraphs to high-speed internet, with the stories of the wars of the 20th century, and grapples with the implications of those decisions on our lives today.
An audiobook version of the book is available on Audible and Audiobooks.com. Read by Tom Perkins and published by Tantor Media. Unabridged, run time 9:44.
Information Hunters - Kathy Peiss - Oxford University Press — global.oup.com

This money will go to good use, like allowing me to purchase some refreshing unsweetened iced tea 😋 (oh, and boring things like paying for domain name extensions and software licenses).
