Library Systems Report 2022, with Marshall Breeding
CI221 Show Notes
In Circulating Ideas, Episode 221, I chatted with Marshall Breeding, longtime library technologist and writer of the annual Library Systems Report, about the history of library automation, putting together the data for the Library Systems Report, proprietary and open source ILS systems, and how vendors work well with each other (and sometimes don't).
Marshall Breeding's annual Library Systems Report covers acquisitions and consolidations across the library technology industry.
Library Technology Guides: Documents, Databases, News, and Commentary
Library Technology Guides delivers objective information on library automation. Find information on library companies and vendors, Integrated Library Systems (ILS) or Library Management Systems (LMS), Open Source and Proprietary products.
libraries.org: an International Directory of Libraries
libraries.org, an international directory of libraries, connects readers with libraries throughout the world. A component of Library Technology Guides, it includes data on the automation products used in libraries. Operated by Marshall Breeding.
Library Perceptions 2022: Results of the 15th International Survey of Library Automation
This fifteenth annual Library Automation Perceptions Report provides evaluative ratings submitted by individuals representing almost four thousand libraries from 87 countries describing experiences with 127 different automation products, including both proprietary and open source systems. The survey results include 1,050 narrative comments providing candid statements -- both positive and negative – about the products and companies involved or statements of intent regarding future automation plans. This report analyzes the results of the survey, presents a variety of statistical tables based on the data collected, and provides some initial observations. It aims to provide information to libraries as they evaluate their options for strategic technology products and to the organizations involved in providing these products and services as constructive criticism to help guide improvements..
